Yielding Prop 1.5m

The Yielding Prop is an engineered elongate made from Saligna timber, reinforced with five 2.3 mm wires wrapped at specific points to facilitate controlled yielding during underground use.

The top of the prop features four precision cuts, enabling the pine to expand outward between the wires, enhancing the yielding process. This design consistently improves hanging wall stability and underground safety for miners. Additionally, its straightforward installation ensures operational efficiency. However, its weight, approximately 35–40 kg, is a consideration during handling.

Testing is done in a 500KN press where the prop is placed in an upright position with the cuts at the top, the press is then preloaded to 100KN and then the test is started. When the test reaches 350mm displacement the test stops automatically.
